Marilyn Susan Wood, known by everyone as “Granny”, age 77 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away on Friday, October 23, 2026 at her residence with her family by her side.

In honor of her wishes no services will be held.

Marilyn had worked as a server at Red Lobster and at Bob Evans for 30+ years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Metropolis but frequently attended rest Church with her family in Paducah. She enjoyed hanging out with her friends from Happy Hearts and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to crochet and play church hymns on the piano. She had endless kindness, a giving heart, invested in everyone around her, all the way to the end. She left our world on her own terms, in her own home, surrounded by her family with them singing Amazing Grace.

Marilyn is survived by her sons, Carl Gene Nicholson and wife, Ginger, and James Wood; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Diane Slater; brother, Don Nicholson; many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Jeannine Nicholson (Stewart).
