Margaret Ann (Williams) Emerick, of Metropolis, Illinois, formerly of Springfield, Illinois, passed away early on Friday morning, November 11, 2022, ten days before her 89th birthday, at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Margaret was born on November 21, 1933, in Enfield, White County, Illinois, the youngest daughter of Chelsea Sigle Williams and Dorothy Clemence (Clark) Williams.

Margaret grew up in Southern Illinois in a close-knit, musical family and was baptized at Powers Methodist Church. She graduated from Metropolis High School in 1951 and SIU-Carbondale in 1955, after which she taught at elementary schools in the Springfield and St. Louis areas.

In 1958, Margaret married her soulmate, A. Eugene Emerick. They lived half of their almost 60-year marriage in Pennsylvania, where Margaret worked at a bank. In that state, they became passionate about researching their families' roots, and Margaret went on to write five family history books.

The couple moved back to Springfield, Illinois, in 2003, where Eugene died in 2018. Margaret continued to bless her family with her memories and encouraging words till the end.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at IOOF Cemetery in Metropolis with Pastor Haley Hausman officiating.

Margaret is survived by her brother, Clark Williams, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Robert Hausman, Ellen and Virgil C. Bremer; sisters-in-law, Doris Jean (Jeanie) Williams and Dorris Jean Williams; and nephew, Larry Bruce Hausman.
