Mrs. Lois Jean Nolte Marshall, age 87, of Metropolis, IL, left this world at 4:34 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Southgate Healthcare Center in Metropolis, IL. She was born in Murphysboro, IL on January 7, 1930 to Mary L. Frazier Nolte and Herman H. Nolte. She married Herbert E. Marshall January 22, 1949 and he preceded her in death August 7, 2005. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Lois was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, member of Metropolis First Baptist Church, the Vienna Red Hats, loved bowling, quilting, the St. Louis Cardinals and painting china. She was a long time member of the Carbondale Porcelain Art Guild and the Massac Quilt Guild. Spending time with family was also very special to her. Lois is survived by three children, Janet L. Mittendorf of Paducah, KY, Carol J. Racey and husband Alan of Vienna, IL, and Robert G. Marshall and wife Nancy of Cobden, IL; four grandchildren, Larry Mittendorf and wife Sandy, Robert Mittendorf, Kim Simmons, and Chelsie Racey; six great grandchildren, Megan Watson, Dylan Mittendorf, Will Mittendorf, Morgan Racey-Test, Marissa Simmons, Ally Simmons; two great-great grandchildren, Izaiah and Cameron Watson; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bailey and husband Jim of Godfrey, IL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one great-great granddaughter, Taylor Lynn Simmons. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 7, from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home.
