Obituary

Lois Mae Marlman, 86, of Metropolis, Illinois, and formerly of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on July 28, 1939, in Reevesville, Johnson County, Illinois. Her parents were Elmer Maurice Shaw and Anna (Harper) Shaw.

On July 31, 1960, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Dale Trovillion and was blessed with two sons, Kevin Dale Trovillion and Kent David Trovillion.

Later in life, on April 18, 1993, she married Earl Franklin Marlman in Metropolis, Illinois. She and Earl had 25 happy years together. They enjoyed life traveling, spending time in their Metropolis home, and at their home in Spring Hill, Florida. Earl preceded her in death on August 18, 2018.

Lois leaves surviving her son, Kevin (Deborah) Trovillion, Clarksville, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Ann Trovillion, Hendersonville, Tennessee; granddaughter, Kayla Dawn Trovillion, Gallatin, Tennessee; step-grandson, Justin (Cayman) Walker and daughter, Dickson, Tennessee; sister, Joyce Ann (Ron) Taylor, Vienna, Illinois; niece, Angelia Crowell, Nunnelly, Tennessee; nephews, Darren (Cara) Crowell, and their children, Marysville, Washington and Wayne (Mary) Daubert and their children, Vienna, Illinois; sister-in-law, Esther Stewart, Chrisman, Illinois; Earl's step-daughters, Pam Gloster of Viera, Florida, and Starr Wheelis, of West Monroe, Louisiana, and their families; , many cousins and friends.

In addition to Earl, she was also preceded in death by her son, Kent David Trovillion; her parents; her first husband, Kenneth Trovillion; Pam Gloster's husband, Art; and Starr Wheelis' husband, Gale.

Lois accepted Christ when she was a teenager. At the time of her death, she was a member of the First Methodist Church in Metropolis, Illinois, and associate member of the Spring Life Church in Spring Hill, Florida. She filled positions of Sunday school and Bible school teacher, church pianist and organist, choir member, and served on several committees at the churches she attended in Reevesville, New Columbia, West Frankfort, and Metropolis, Illinois. At Spring Hill, she was a member of the chancel choir, the Christianity Today Sunday school class, Encouragers bible study group, Faith Circle, and Chapter GS of P.E.O.

From an early age, she had a desire and goal of working in an office. After graduating from Vienna High School as valedictorian of the Class of 1957, she was employed as secretary by Electric Energy, Inc. in Joppa, Illinois, and filled positions in the Engineering, Personnel, Safety and Labor Relations departments.

She relocated to West Frankfort, Illinois. There she was a Cub Scout leader for her boys and their friends and did volunteer work helping at their schools. She also attended classes at John A. Logan College and Rend Lake College.

She later resumed her business career and worked for certified public accountants and law firms in Benton, Illinois. She was then employed by Old Ben Coal Company, a subsidiary of British Petroleum, in their Illinois Division Office in Benton. She held the position of Human Resources secretary and later was promoted to Personnel and Benefits Administrator. After retiring from Old Ben, she was employed by Kerr-McGee Coal Company, Galatia, Illinois in their Engineering Department until relocating back to Metropolis.

Her philosophy was to do unto others as you would have them do unto you; and to always try to do your best in everything you do.

Services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis with Pastor Joey Dunning officiating. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, March 11, 2026 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.
