Lawrence Lindell Buchanan, 88 of Metropolis, Illinois passed from this life at 10:15 pm on Monday, February 2, 2015 at the Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 25, 1926 in Pope County, IL to Elda Buchanan and Vitura (Hall) Buchanan. The family moved to Massac County in 1935.He was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. He served his country in the U.S. Army from April 1952 and was honorably discharged in April 1954. He spent 1953 in Korea, with the 21st Signal Corps, attaining the rank of Corporal. Lawrence was an avid outdoorsman, having worked construction for many years from the local union. He generously provided for his mother for many years. He was a good gardener and adept repairman. In addition to his own home and equipment, he willingly helped family and friends with repairs. His favorite pastimes were rabbit hunting and good beagle dogs. He spent enjoyable days with the sport most of his life.Survivors include his step daughter-in-law Theresa Stephens Bremer, stepson Derril Bremer and wife Geneene, stepson Steven Bremer and wife Pam, step grandchildren Ben Bremer, Jason Bremer, Nick Bremer, and Erin Bremer Helal and his brother Everett Buchanan of New Albany, IN, who is the lone survivor of the original family. And a host of nieces and nephews.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Deloris (Bremer) Buchanan in 1987 and his second wife, Ruby (Bremer) Buchanan in 2013. His stepson Everett Dale Bremer, his sisters Fern Laird and Mildred Rodgers and brothers Travis Buchanan and Elda Buchanan, Jr.Graveside services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Pastor Tom Emmerson officiating.There will not be any visitation. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery for the graveside service.Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
