Ms. Lawanda Mescher, age 87, of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Southgate Health Care Center.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Jon Cockrel officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery.Lawanda was born in Metropolis, IL on November 11, 1927 to Fritz and Gladys Mescher. She attended Central Grade School and graduated from Metropolis Community High School in 1944. After graduation, she worked for the telephone company in Metropolis, Vienna and Bloomington, IL for 40 ½ years. Lawanda was a member for the First United Methodist Church in Metropolis since 1939.Lawanda is survived by her brother, Jack Mescher and wife Phyllis; sister-in-law, Vera Reynolds; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Delbert James Mescher and Virgil Mescher; and sister Mary Lucille Beasley.Visitation will be held from 12 noon until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Miller Funeral Home.Online condolences may be left at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com.
