Obituary

Kenneth Ted "Slats" Abrams, 90, of Metropolis passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. Brian Anderson officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Slats grew up in Slapout, AL, doing farm work and then entered the Navy for 3 years, 9 months and 18 days earning the Chinese Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He then married Margaret Wilson on February 12, 1955 and moved to Metropolis. He worked at EEI for 37 years, until his early retirement due to health issues.

Slats is survived by two daughters, Meri-Gaye Baker (Dean Sexton) of Metropolis and Cecelia Diane Searels (Ricky) of Chatsworth, GA; one son, Kenneth Lamar Abrams (Jeanne Ghrist) of Brandywine, MD; grandchildren, Brandy Lee Williamson, Cody Searels, Casey Meri Bagley, Tiffany Ellen Morrow, Justin Scott Abrams, Kendra Lee Abrams Abell, and Marcie Renee Hickman; several great grandchildren; and brother, Lee Elmer Blackwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Lamar Abrams and Hester Irene Davis Abrams Blackwell; wife, Margaret Jean Abrams; brother, Ralph Lamar Abrams; and grandson, Matthew Lee Randolph.
