Kenneth Halstenberg, age 93, of Metropolis, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Massac Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; and his parents, Fred and Carolyn Halstenberg.

Kenneth is survived by his son, Michael; grandchildren, Alexandra, Evan, and Elliott; brother, Bill Halstenberg; and sister, Delores Canada.

Kenneth was a dedicated educator who spent 45 years teaching Biology and Science at Metropolis High School, Massac County High School, and Shawnee Community College. During his entire teaching career, he never used a sick day. His teaching philosophy was simple: every student deserved a well-prepared and well-groomed teacher.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Signal Corps, Infantry Division, and was stationed in Munich, Germany.

Kenneth was a member of Powers Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School to both adults and children and served as church treasurer for 20 years.

There will be no services.
