Kelly Jennings, age 56 of Metropolis, Illinois went to be with the Lord Jesus on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center surrounded by his family and loved ones.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Anderson and Bernie Cowgill officiating.
Kelly was born in Rosiclare, Illinois on July 31, 1968, the son of Glyndell and Yvonne Jennings.
Kellys great passion in life was to serve the Lord Jesus. He was a member of Eastland Life Church, where he served as an elder and led the men's group called "Forged". Kelly was a founding member of 3-D Life Recovery, where he led the men's sharing group and was instrumental in developing the soon coming 3-D sober house for men in Metropolis. He was a member of the Gideons International. Kelly was instrumental in beginning the ministry of bringing believers together around prayer. Kelly was the leader of the monthly community prayer service at the courthouse as well as a bimonthly men's prayer service in the Metropolis Community Center.
Most of Kellys career was centered around truck driving, which he did for 20 years. Kelly then opened "Jennings Trucking" where he was owner operator. Finally, Kelly took his skills to Shawnee Community College where he worked as a Truck Driving Coordinator. It was in this position that Kelly found his passion to help others. Many people found their lives changed because Kelly helped them achieve their goals.
If you knew Kelly, you knew of his quick wit and contagious sense of humor. Kelly also loved attending and coaching his kids' sports teams and got involved in the educational community by serving on the Massac Unit #1 School Board.
Kelly is survived by his loving wife, Sara; his four children, Chelsea (Mickey) Jacobs, Brayden, Keaton, and Kylie Jennings; he was the grandfather to Carson and Hudson Jacobs; his parents, Glyndell and Yvonne Jennings; his brother, Jeff (Anita) Jennings; his sister, Margie (Shannon) Bowman; his sister-in-law, Ali (Nick) Johnson; his mother-in-law, Twila (Patrick) Dresser; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, his paternal grandparents, and his brother-in-law, Kevin Parr.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 21st from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.
