Keith Rogers, age 64 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 12:28 pm on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at his residence. He was born on July 15, 1960 in Paducah, KY, to Roy Emmett Rogers and Vivian Kay (Elam) Rogers.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Don McCord officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery in Rosebud.
Keith was stricken as a toddler with a rare bone disease that left him disabled but not defeated. He achieved many accomplishments in life despite the months of hospitalizations and many surgeries.
His smile and personality lead him to be the national poster child for the March of Dimes and Easter Seals Association.
Keith traveled to Canada to compete in the International Special Olympics wheelchair division where he brought home two gold medals.
After graduating from Pope County High School in 1979, Keith attended Gem City College in Quincy, IL where he learned the title of watchmaker and repairman. He also earned certificates for Taxidermy, small engine repair, leather crafting and private investigating.
Keith proudly served in the Metropolis Lions Club for a number of years as treasurer. He was also a volunteer for the Brookport Fire Department from 2007 to 2017 as the secretary and Report Data Entry personal.
He was a long-time member of the Metropolis Church of Christ and was a great prayer warrior.
Keith had a great loved for animals and had many dogs, cats and birds over the years which brought him much comfort and joy. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and entertaining the kids with his music. He was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Keith is survived by his sister, Tammy (Chris) Mead; brother, Kerk Mead all of Chebanse, IL; and brother, Kenton Ford of North Carolina. Also surviving are special aunts, Barbara Ferguson, Patsy Bowman, Gloria Neibch, and Sue (Don) McCord; uncle Raymond (Sue) Rogers; a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews, many friends, and his long-time care giver, James Priddy.
Preceding him in death is his parents, Roy Emmett Rogers and Vivian Kay (Elam) Rogers; stepmother, Karen Rogers; stepfather, Al Little; stepbrother, Darrell Little; and grandparents, O.C. and Eula Elam and Otis and Clara Rogers.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025 from 11 am to 1 pm at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made in Keith's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
Pallbearers will be Greg Elam, Neal Ferguson, Corey Bowman, Richard Neibch, Heath Neibch, and Gabe McCord.
