IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joshua Dean
Logeman
August 30, 1990 – July 2, 2024
Joshua Dean Logeman, 33 of Metropolis, IL, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with burial following at Faith Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Joshua suffered from seizures that began when he was 4 months old. He spoke over 40 words by age 2 and developed normally until he lost all speech and cognitive comprehension due to irreversible damage caused by doctors discontinuing all seizure medicine at that time. In 2005, at age 14, he underwent a 3-stage brain surgery to remove the cause of the seizures. It was found that he had a rare brain malformation and that he was only the 6th person in the world at the time with that diagnosis. Due to the constant care, he required, Joshua was placed into residential care at age 8. Since that time, he was a resident in DuQuoin, IL, Anna, IL, and Murphysboro, IL. In May 2021, he was moved to the Warren G. Murray Center state facility in Centralia, IL where he lived in Berry Cottage and Grape Cottage. Josh was very happy, content, and thrived under their care. Joshua also suffered from other medical issues that developed over the years, including Hydrocephalus and Intracranial Hypertension which required two different medical shunt devices in his brain and spine.
Joshua loved paperclips, binder clips, and soda can tabs. If he saw them, he had to have them. He made chains with them and would twirl them or carry them around in his pockets. Joshua also LOVED trains, especially Thomas the Tank Engine. He loved the classic Disney movies Snow White, 101 Dalmatians, Robin Hood, Bambi, Lady & The Tramp, The Aristocats, Dumbo, and The Jungle Book, but his all-time favorite was Monster's Inc. He loved eating grilled cheese sandwiches, Ramen noodles, chicken nuggets, chocolate pudding, and Taco Bell soft tacos. He would drink just about anything. Root beer was his favorite drink second to chocolate milk. He loved roller coasters like Mr. Freeze at Six Flags and Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World even though he was afraid of heights. He loved riding on the tractor and four-wheeler and was always ready to go for a ride, especially with Grandpa Ralph in his little white truck.
Josh's parents nicknamed him their medical unicorn. He defied all medical logic over the years starting with his seizures and continuing through all the infections and other health issues he faced. He had broken bones with no signs of pain and infections with no temperature or lab results that showed the problem. He didn't know the days of the week or understand holidays or birthdays, but he knew and loved his mom, dad, and sister with every ounce of his soul.
Joshua is survived by his parents, Scott and Laura (Schrock) Logeman; sister, Alyssa Logeman; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ralph and JoAnn Logeman; maternal grandparents, Dean and Emma Lou Schrock; 1 aunt and 2 uncles.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening July 9, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 11 am to the service hour.
