John Tanner, 61 of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Metropolis. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.

John was a skilled carpenter. He loved watching western movies, being around his grandkids and fishing. He would make fishing a competition with the kids, offering a coke to whoever caught the biggest one. They loved it, especially because they knew he would get them all one anyway.

John is survived by two daughters, Julia Tanner and Lakin Smith and husband Ryan; son, Noah Tanner and wife Ruth; 10 grandchildren, Theron Tanner, Landon Hopkins, Abel Tanner, Vincent Hardison, Roman Smith, Evah Smith, Eliza Smith, Evelyn, Adelyn Tanner and Madelyn Tanner; two sisters, Mary Bruce and Nita Dawn Haney; brother, Bill Tanner and wife Annette; uncle, Bill Tanner and wife Evelyn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Joe and Juanita Tanner; daughter, Tosha Tanner; two sisters, Theresa Waddell and Bobbi Jo Wilkins.

Memorial contributions may be given in John's name to Project Hope PO Box 125, Metropolis, IL 62960.
