John W. Snyder, 82, passed away on March 9, 2018. He was born on February 28, 1936 in Ingram, AR. He spent his childhood in Round Knob where his mother was a switchboard operator and his father was a farmer.
From January 1953 until March 1956, Mr. Snyder served in the US Army Airborne. After his enlistment, he learned an electrician trade and worked his trade until he became a Business Agent for Local 148 of the Operating Engineers. In 1991, John retired from Electric Energy, Inc. and from Local 148 Operating Engineers.
On January 16, 1956, he married Sandra Crockett, daughter of Lannis and Daisy Crockett. Mr. Snyder was of the Christian faith. He attended school at Round Knob, MCHS, Purdue University Extension at Hammond, IN, and Shawnee College where he earned a degree in Mid-Management. He was a member and past Master of Masonic Lodge #91 of Metropolis.
John is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; one son, Bruce W. Snyder of Metropolis; one daughter, Kebra D. Lillibridge and husband Richard of Jasper, GA; four grandsons, Drew Snyder and Joel Snyder-sons of Keith, John J. Snyder and Zachariah Snyder-sons of Bruce; three granddaughters, Amanda Bolen and husband Michael of Cleveland, TN and Kristen Tinney and husband Shane of Dalton, GA-daughters of Kebra, and Della Rose-daughter of Bruce; one sister, Lavenia Minor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Dora Snyder; one son, Dr. Reverend Keith D. Snyder; three brothers, Lloyd, Carl and Wayne as well as a sister, Celeste.
Arrangements are entrusted to Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis.
There will be no services. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the American Cancer Society 4503 W. DeYoung St. Suite 200C, Marion, IL 62959.
