John Michael Meyer, age 62 of Metropolis, IL passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015 at the Massac Memorial Hospital.Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Miller Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Hardison will officiate. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Joppa, Illinois.He was retired from the Ft. Massac State Park, had previously worked at the Mermet Refuge and the Easter Seals Center in Paducah, KY. He attended Joppa Baptist Church for most of his life and had most recently been attending Community Christian Church in Metropolis. He was baptized in the Jordan River on March 10, 1978. He was a member of the Metropolis Lions Club where he was chairman of the Illinois Lion Club Roadblock. He attended church since the age of 5 and attended church every consecutive Sunday for 51 years until his health prevented him from doing so for 4 weeks.He is survived by his cousins, Carol Ann Grace of Metropolis, IL, Martha Kay Miller and husband Bob of Metropolis, IL, Kay Miller and husband Doug of Lone Oak, KY, Ray Wilke and wife Martha of Belknap, IL, Brenda Crockett and husband Loren of Karnak, IL, Bonnie Eime and husband Walter of Karnak, IL, Tom Wilke and wife Devon of Metropolis, IL, Randy Wilke and wife Cindy of Karnak, IL, Billy Wilke and wife Vicki of Karnak, IL, Cyndi Metcalf and husband Rick of Sesser, IL, and David Wilke and wife Julie of Belknap, IL.He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse E. and Gloria (Robinett) Meyer.Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 10 am to 11 am at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis, Illinois.Pallbearers will be Randy Wilke, Billy Wilke, David Wilke, Ray Wilke, Walter Eime, and Paul Pritchett.Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Rodgers, Loren Crockett, and Tommy Wilke.Online condolences may be left at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com
