Obituary

Scott Kennedy, 79, of Metropolis, Illinois, died at 1:10 a.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Metropolis Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. Scott was a loving husband, daddy, and pappy. He was a faithful Christian member of Metropolis First Baptist Church for 52 years and a Trustee for many of those years. He retired from USEC on October 30, 1998, after 30 years of service. He also served his country in the Army from 1962 to 1964, receiving an honorable discharge. Scott is survived by his wife of 59 years on November 23, 2016, Delphine (Bundren) Kennedy of Metropolis; two daughters, Cynthia McDonald and husband Steve of Fayetteville, Tennessee, Staci Overby and husband Scott of Paducah, Kentucky; two grandsons Michael and Addison Overby of Paducah, Kentucky; two granddaughters Kasi and Skylar McDonald of Fayetteville, Tennessee; one brother Paul Kennedy and wife Sue of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Kennedy of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Dorothy Kennedy of Metropolis, Illinois; two brothers-in-law, Milton Wroton (Leota) of Lenexa, Kansas, and Don Bundren (Jane) of Ravenden Springs, Arkansas; two aunt, Emma Jean Kennedy and Eva Lea Barnes (Bill Barnes); four nephews, Mark Kennedy (Debbie), Greg Kennedy (Mary), Jason Kennedy (Anita), and David Wroten; three nieces, Jada Kennedy, Pam Wroten, and Shanda Graffice (Eric); many cousins and friends in the Metropolis area, several cousins from Pocahontas, Sherwood, and Hot Springs, AR, and Colorado state. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldred and Rhoda (Sullivan) Kennedy; two brothers, Bill and Dale Kennedy; one sister, Katherine Wroten. Funeral Services will be at Metropolis First Baptist Church. Thursday, October 27, 2016; visitation will be from 12 noon until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. Dr. Greg Dills of Newport, Arkansas, will officiate along with Bro. David Deem and Bro Harvey Baxter. Karen Wemhoener will provide piano music and Dr. Greg Dills will sing. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers - Michael Overby, Addison Overby, Mark Kennedy, Greg Kennedy, Marvin Barnhill, and John Roberts. Honorary Pallbearers - Roy Yates, Gary McGinnis, Jim Young, Joe Miller and Robert Cozart. Kathryn Kennedy will play Taps at the graveside service. The family requests that donations be made to Metropolis First Baptist Church Building Fund or Lourdes Hospice. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Randy Oliver; the staff, nurses, CNAs, housekeepers, employees and Chaplain Deem of Metropolis Rehabilitation & Health Care; the Lourdes Hospice nurses, aids and chaplain for their loving care and support. Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
