Dr. John L. Hodge, age 100, of Metropolis, formerly of Eldorado, IL, passed away at his residence on Monday, June 8, 2020. He was born in Eldorado on February 28, 1920 to the late William and Jennie (Brewner) Hodge. On March 7, 1941, he married Helen Jeanne Reeder in St. Charles, Missouri. He is survived by his bride of 79 years.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served proudly during WWII. He started Dental School at St. Louis University and graduated with honors in 1952. After graduation, he returned to Eldorado and started practicing dentistry, retiring in 1984. After retiring, he and Helen spent time traveling and fishing for crappie and spending time at Barkley and Rend lakes but his greatest love was for his family. He accomplished many things in his 100 years and leaves a legacy.
He is survived by four children, Rena Miller of Metropolis, Susie (Gary) Munton of Collinsville, IL, Cynthia (Dean) Gramlich of Chicago, IL and John (Rob) Hodge of Troy, IL; eight grandchildren, Larry Dale (Jennifer) Miller, John (Lori) Miller, Becky (Chris) Burgess, JoAnna Yates, Dr. Rodney (Beth) Asbrock, Dr. Kevin (Debbie) Asbrock, Sarah (Billy) Copeland, Dr. Danny (Jane) Beal, 22 great grandchildren, Autumn Henderson, Amber Miller, Kalen Miller, Jake Miller, Keaton Burgess, Cade Burgess, Kennedy Burgess, Abby Yates, Caroline Yates, Will Yates, John Ryan Asbrock, Maggie Asbrock, Elle Asbrock, Macy Copeland, Damien Copeland, Danielle Patterson, Christian Beal, Nick Beal, Madison White, Stret Beal, Eli Beal, Yna Beal; four great-great grandchildren, Ryden, Raynlie and Rosie White and Nick Cain; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
Due to the current health and safety directives, a service will be held at a later date.
