Obituary

Mr. John Hardy Artman, 65 of Metropolis, IL., passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at his home in the care of his wife, son, and family members.

Graveside services will be on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Bro. Trad York officiating. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.

John was a wonderful person that loved God, his family, and friends. He was a member of Waldo Baptist Church. John loved sitting around reminiscing and telling stories of the past with his family and friends. He had a sense of humor and often times made everyone laugh. He always made a good impression on those that got to know him. He was always positive, a hard worker, and never gave up. In addition, he had a passion for cars and a remarkable knowledge of their workings. He spent many hours working on engines, body work, restorations, and talking to other car enthusiasts. He acquired many friends over the years talking about hot rods.

John is survived by his wife of over 41 years, Vickie (Williamson) Artman; son, Joshua Artman, Step-Mother, Susan Artman-Cole (Lyndell), Mother In-Law, Cheryl Street (Donald), Sister In-Laws, Tammy Mizell (Jack) and Kathy Henry (Greg); Nephew, Jake Mizell III, Niece, Kristi Gillett (Jerry),and Nephews, Zac Henry (Amber), Eli Henry; and cousins; Constance Price, Susan Ann Pearl, Paula Shannon Wilcox, John H. Artman, David C. Artman; Great-Nieces Kyrie and Phoenix Gillette, Great-Nephews Nolan and Ollie Henry, and Leiden and Ledger Henry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Carroll Artman and Phyllis J. Powell, daughter, Sydney Artman, Grandparents; Edward Carrol and Pauline Tucker Artman and Grandparents J.T Culp and Mary Turner; one sister, Debra Libby (Gary); Uncle John H. Artman and Aunt Deborah A. Price.

Memorials may be made in John’s name to Rolling In Faith, 1132 Country Club Road, Metropolis, Illinois 62960 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Dawson, Todd Babb, Tyrone Scott, Jake Mizell III, Greg Henry, and Jerry Gillette.
