Joel Calvin Troutt Jr., age 79, passed away on August 13, 2026 at Marion VA Medical Center in Marion IL, after a battle with cancer.

A service to celebrate Joey’s life will be held Saturday August 22, 2026 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis, IL. The visitation will be at 11:00 am with the service to follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Reevesville Cemetery in Reevesville, IL, with military rites.

Joel was born in Metropolis, IL on September 16, 1946, to Joel Calvin Sr. and Aline Troutt.

He was known as Joel, Joey, Jo-Jo, or to many Uncle JoJo .

He was preceded in death by his parents Joel Calvin Troutt Sr. and Aline (Shreves) Troutt, his Sister-in-Law Patty (Street) Troutt, and four infant great nieces/nephews.

He is survived by his sister Lana (Troutt) Joliff, Brother-in-Law Paul Joliff, his brother Robert “Bob” Troutt, his aunt and uncle Larry and Sharon Burris, Several nieces and nephews: Brien Troutt (Shell), Susan Troutt, Mary Nix (Jeremy), Becky Clausen (Curtis), Bobby Troutt (Amy). Several great nieces and nephews: Brien Kieth Troutt, Justin Troutt (Cedez Coleman), Ethan Nix, Calvin Clausen, Evie Troutt, and Annie Troutt, 1 great great nephew:Esen Troutt and 1 great great niece: Adrienne Rose Monroe Troutt.

He leaves behind many more friends in Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, and Ohio than a person could ever fit in a room.

Quite simply, if you knew JoJo- you loved him. Though he had no children of his own, many looked up to him as a father figure.

He was stranger to none, knew something about everything, and was a grand story teller. He would make time for anyone to talk about history, hunting, fishing, or just to laugh and tell funny stories.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in the Army and took great pride in serving his country. Joey loved his doctors, nurse, and staff that cared for him at the Marion Va Medical Center during his last days.

He worked many years in Ohio as a surveying engineer for American Electric Power. When he retired from this company he moved back to Metropolis, IL to be close to family and friends. He enjoyed working at Super City Antiques in Metropolis, IL as a fun retirement job. This allowed him to be around people, which he loved, and let him enjoy his interest in antiques and vintage items.

The things Joey enjoyed most were metal detecting, coin collecting, cruise ship traveling, hunting, fishing, and a good cup of coffee.

Most of all, Joey loved people and could talk to anyone about anything.

Joey was a member of Powers Church in Metropolis, IL. He loved his church family and enjoyed the fellowship he found there. He served as a trustee for the church.

He was part of the Kincaid Mounds Group which would meet up to find arrowheads and spend time outdoors.

Joey remained positive and hopeful even in his battle with cancer. He was an inspiration to many with his kind and gentle way. Heaven has gained an amazing man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
