Joan Cummins Dowd, age 83 of Reevesville, Illinois passed away at 8:50 am on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the Massac Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.Graveside services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Reevesville Cemetery in Reevesville, Illinois. Joan was born on April 27, 1932 in Ganntown, IL to John Lewis and Aline (Brenningmeyer) Cummins. Joan went to cosmetology school and worked at a local salon giving manicures. She also worked as a waitress at a local café and this is where she met Harold Bryant Dowd. They married on July 27, 1953 in Booneville, MS. They had 2 sons, Anthony Lynn and Philip Bruce.Joan was a devoted wife, mother, and Christian. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Bible Baptist Church of Paducah until her health prevented it.Joan is survived by 2 sons, Tony Dowd and Philip Dowd and wife Kathy; 3 grandchildren, Heather Hauck and husband Michael, Clint Dowd, Jay Dowd and wife Heather; 5 great grandchildren, Logan and Cameron Hauck, Lexi Baumgart, Riley Baumgart, and Blakelee Dowd; 1 brother, Bruce Cummins and wife Paula; nieces, Kim Ferguson and husband Darren, Shelly Stewart and husband Rick and family; nephew, Jason Cummins and wife Cheryl and family.Joan was preceded in death by her parents, John Lewis and Aline (Brenningmeyer) Cummins; her beloved husband of 56 years, Harold Bryant Dowd.There will not be any visitation.
