Mr. Jesse C. Lassiter Jr., age 86, of Coralville, IA, formerly of Metropolis, IL, passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Windmill Manor in Coralville, IA.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Rev. David Deem officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.Jesse was born on September 21, 1928 and graduated from Metropolis Community High School in 1947. His career was in the field of insurance; he started his career with the Prudential Insurance Company in 1965. He purchased Brannon Brothers Insurance Agency in 1973 and merged with Robert H. McCluskey of Steers Insurance Agency in 1976 to form the partnership of Lassiter-McCluskey Insurance, whose name later changed to Midwest Insurance. Jesse was a 50 plus year member of local Masonic Lodge #91, past-president and a 35 plus year member of the Metropolis Rotary Club, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Metropolis. He got a kick out of dressing-up as a clown for parades and other events, as a member of Metropolis Rotary's clown troupe. In addition, Jesse loved playing golf and cards with friends and family. He enjoyed the many vacations he took with his children throughout their childhood and with his wife, after their kids had grown-up. He was a loving, caring, faithful, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who got to know him. His many friends will always remember his great sense of humor; he touched many lives all throughout his life, even until the very end.Surviving are one son Jay Conway Lassiter and wife Kim of Claremont, California, one daughter Jayne C. DeCoste and husband Dave of Hiawatha, Iowa, four grandchildren Joshua Conway Lassiter and Zachary Burgess Lassiter of Claremont and Nicole Jessica DeCoste and Justin Nicholas DeCoste of Hiawatha, and two nephews Patrick Lassiter and David Lassiter of Nashville, Tennessee.He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Wilma L. Lassiter and by his brother Larry J. Lassiter of Mauldin, South Carolina. His parents were the late Jesse Conway Lassiter, Sr. and Verla Aikins Lassiter.Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home.The family requests any memorials be given to the Metropolis Rotary Club c/o Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home P.O.
