Mr. Jerrel Howard Edington, 91, of Brookport, IL, passed away at 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Hillview Nursing Home in Vienna surrounded by family. He was born July 23, 1923 to Burton and Nina Edington in Obion Co., TN.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015, at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Billy Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery in New Columbia, IL.Mr. Edington is survived by 10 children, James Edington of Brookport, IL, Virgil Edington and wife Joann of Golconda, IL, Virginia Darnell of Metropolis, IL, Walter Edington and wife Betty of Golconda, IL, Jerrel Edington Jr. of Paducah, KY, Elsie Parrish of Creal Springs, IL, Dale Edington and wife Nancy of Ledbetter, KY, Doris Vowell and husband Scott of Brookport, IL, Carmen Bates of Brookport, IL, and John Edington and wife Elizabeth of Winter Park, FL; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mattie Burgess of Vienna, IL.Besides his parents, Jerrel was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Louise Edington; 1 granddaughter; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.Visitation will be held on Friday, May 22 from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis.Expressions of sympathy and memorials may be made to Celtic Hospice 8341 Express Drive Marion, IL 62959.
