Janette (Brooks) Sommer, age 81, of Grand Chain, IL, passed away at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2014 at Baptist Health of Paducah.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Revs. David Keyes and David Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Anderson Cemetery in Boaz, IL.Janette Brooks married Ralph Sommer on August 11, 1950, and from this union they had 2 sons; Philip Ralph and Kent Allen. She was a faithful member of Hillerman Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and always loved spending her time with family and friends.Janette is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ralph Sommer; 2 sons, Philip Sommer and wife Sandy and Kent Sommer and wife Andrea all of Grand Chain, IL; 1 brother, William Brooks and wife Virginia of Lee's Summit, MO; 3 grandchildren, Joshua Sommer of Paducah, KY, Kyle Sommer and wife Andrea of Metropolis, and Lindsay Hertter and husband George of Metropolis; step-granddaughter, Stephanie Machan and husband Rocky of Paducah, KY; 6 great-grandchildren, Isaac Sommer, Kaylene Sommer, Hannah Sommer, Trevor Hertter, Caden Sommer, and Johnathan Sommer; and many other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, Hershel "Bill" and Hazel (Osborne) Brooks.Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 22, at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home from 12 noon until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m.Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Arthritis Foundation 714 S.
