James C. Searles, age 87 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 12:05 pm on Monday, August 10, 2015 at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Memorial services will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, August 14, 2015 at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis. Rev. Jon Cockrel will officiate.James was a retired carpenter and along with his wife, owned and operated Charlie's Drive In. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Metropolis, Masonic Lodge, Massac Gun Club, and Boy Scout Troop 101 where he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award.James is survived by his wife of 69 years 6 months and 10 days, Evelyn Kidd Searles of Metropolis; 2 daughters, Nancy Hayes and husband Terry of Metropolis, Nita Bauer and husband Steve of Paducah; 4 grandchildren, Paula Sutton of Mt. Vernon, IL; Jimi Thompson of Metropolis, Terrin Hayes of Paducah, John Bauer and wife Lori of Paducah; 5 great grandchildren, Kayla Sutton of St. Louis, MO, Leah Sutton Allen and husband Spencer of Atlanta, GA, Audrey and Katie Thompson of Metropolis, IL, Jake Bauer of Paducah, KY; sister, Linda Stevers of Metropolis, IL; 3 nieces, 1 nephew, and several cousins.James was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Pearl David Searles; brother, William "Billy" Searles.Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 from 11 am until 12 noon at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4503 West Deyoung Street, Suite 200, Marion, Illinois 62959.
