Mr. James Hunerkoch, 67, of Chicago, IL, formerly of Metropolis, IL, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, IL.Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Tom Emmerson officiating, Entombment will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.Mr. Hunerkoch is survived by his sister, Karlene Lewis and husband John and one brother Gerald Hunerkoch all of Metropolis, IL.; two nieces, Michelle Sirls and husband Eric of Calvert City, KY and Andrea Rogers of Metropolis, IL; one nephew, Christopher Hunerkoch and wife Lea of Houston, TX; one great nephew, Tyler Sirls of Calvert City, KY.James was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Aline (Hillebrand) Hunerkoch, He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Stephens Lutheran Church and currently attended Edison Park Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Massac County grade schools and Massac County High School and attended S.I.U. in Carbondale, IL. He was a Navy veteran, serving in the Mediterranean, and after the service he worked for the U.S. Postal service for 42 years in Chicago.Visitation will be on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until the service time of 1 p.m.Memorials may be given to St. Stephens Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.Online condolences may be left at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com
