James Hoyt Harris, 84, of Metropolis passed away at 2:30 pm on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Baptist Health in Paducah. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ. Linwood Mathis will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.James Hoyt Harris was born on August 14, 1930 to Thomas Oscar and Maree Phillips Harris. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, and served in the Korean Conflict. He was employed at General Motors, John Deere, and was also a self-employed mechanic and farmer. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ.He is survived by three sons, Thomas Harris and wife Crystal, Michael Harris, and Chris Harris and wife Kara; one daughter, Shevawn Jackson and husband Ray; 2 sisters, Dolores Tanner and Rosemary Harris; one sister-in-law, Flora Harris; 6 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 1 great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Thomas Luther and Jessie Elliot Phillips, James Albert and Lydia Yates Harris; one brother, Richard Vernon Harris; and one infant brother.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from 9 am to 11 am at the Mt .Pleasant Church of Christ.Memorials may be made to Mt.
