November 17, 1938 – January 31, 2025
James E. "Jim" Manley, also known at work as "Zeke", age 86 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 12:20 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Mercy Health Lourdes in Paducah, KY.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Pastor Joey Dunning officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens with military rites.
Jim was born on November 17, 1938 to John and Letha (Burnham) Manley. He was raised on the family farm in Hillerman and graduated from Joppa High School. After high school, Jim entered the United States Army. When he was discharged, he started his working years making ammunition at the arsenal in Joliet, IL. He moved back to Metropolis and retired after 28 years as a control operator at Honeywell. Jim was a member of the Metropolis First Methodist Church, American Legion Post 306, Happy Hearts, and Yesterday's morning coffee club.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Andrea Underwood and husband Spencer of Paducah, KY; sons, Carl Manley and wife Amy of Metropolis and Alan Manley and wife Julie of Pope County; grandchildren, Nicole Underwood, Andrew Manley, William Manley, and Jillian Jones; one sister, Margaret Farris; several nieces, nephews, life-long friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife of almost 62 years, Elaine Manley; five sisters, Annabell Becka, Mary Woods, Ruth Anderson, Betty Bayless, and Katherine Rider; two brothers, Raymond Manley and Paul Manley; and an infant brother.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.
