Mr. James "Doug" Bates, age 14, of Metropolis, IL passed away on Thursday morning November 21, 2013 at his residence.Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Broadway United Methodist Church in Paducah, KY. Rev. Joe Beal will officiate. Private burial will be held in Lower Salem Cemetery in Massac Co., IL.Doug was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church, Boy Scout Troup 101, Venture Crew 101, and Chess Club.Doug is survived by his parents, Rick and Leslea (Rutt) Bates of Metropolis, IL; 5 sisters, Traci Bates of Elizabethtown, IL, Jessica Lauby of Metropolis, IL, Kimberly Bates Hagan of Pittsburgh, KS, Jennifer Lauby, and Olivia Bates both of Metropolis, IL; grandfather, Vincent Rutt of Dixon, IL; 7 nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Maxine Bates and Eva June Rutt.Visitation will be held on Monday evening, November 25, 2013 from 5 to 8 pm at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis, IL and on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 9:30 am until the funeral hour at the church.
