Irene Jones Graman, 93 of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022 at Massac Memorial Hospital.

A funeral mass will be held at 12 noon on Friday, February 18, 2022 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father Michael Mujule and Rev. David Deem officiating. Entombment will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Irene Jones was born on August 30, 1928 to the late Kenneth and Irene (Wilson) Jones. She graduated from high school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the age of 16 and with a Bachelors degree from University of Illinois at age 19. She then began her teaching career at Champaign-Urbana Elementary School, and later taught at Metropolis High School and in the Massac Unit #1 district.

Mrs. Graman was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Metropolis Kiwanis Club. She was formerly the secretary for the Metropolis Public Library Board and was a good tennis player and even better ping pong player. She was a generous person and a strong woman who was not afraid to speak out for what was right.  Irene was a loving and devoted partner to her late husband Thomas and a loving mother until her last breath. She will be sorely missed.

Irene is survived by two sons, Tomas Graman and wife Nav and Kevin Graman and wife Heather; six grandchildren, Thomas Gabriel Graman, Alexis Graman (Paulinha Querido Van Erven), Sergio Graman, Claire Graman (Jacob Berns), Caitlin Graman (Michael Rodriguez), and Lachlan Graman; one great granddaughter, Danica Graman; and many cousins and other beloved family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Stephen Graman; and special cousins, Mary Lee Leonard, Jean Easley, and Sue Wetherington.

A visitation with the family will be held from 11:00 am to 12 noon on Friday, February 18th at the church.
