Miss Helen E. Gurley, age 97 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 7:20 pm on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 23, 2014 at the St. John's Cemetery on Waldo Church Road. Chaplain Kathy Benard will officiate.Helen was a lifelong resident of Massac County, of the Methodist Faith, and loved animals.Helen is survived by her nephew, Wayne Gurley and wife Vicki of Fairfield Glade, TN; her daughter in Christ, Linda Parr of Metropolis, IL; her sister in Christ, Shirley Sommer of Metropolis, IL.Helen was preceded in death by her parents, John Byrd and Bertha Alice (Arensman) Gurley; her sister, Alice Gurley; her brothers, John Byrd Gurley Jr. and George L. Gurley; her sister-in-laws, Lora Gurley and Mattie Gurley; her nephews, George Melvin and Lindell Gurley.There will not be any visitation. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the services.Memorials may be made to Project Hope, P.O.
