Obituary

Harvey B. "Gene" Parker Jr., age 95 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 5:17 pm on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at his residence.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Pastors Bobby Parker and Tom Ferguson officiating. Military rites will be held immediately following the service. A private burial will be held at a later date.Gene was a member of the Metropolis First Christian Church, being baptized on April 2, 1972. He was the owner of Parker Heating/Air for the past 33 years. His previous employment history included Parker Brothers Auto Repair and Scrapworks, mechanic at Ford Company and Joliet Ammunition Plant. He was part of the construction crew for Electric Energy Inc., Portland Cement, Olmstead Dam, Barkley Dam, Brookport Dam, Smithland Dam, Kincaid Dam and AlliedSignal. Gene was also a former supervisor at Portland Cement, employed at Walker Tow Line, a commissioner for the City of Metropolis and a mechanic at Frank Farmer and Kaiser Frazier. Mr. Parker was a WWII US Navy Veteran, a member of the VFW, American Legion Post 306 for 29 years, Masonic Lodge Post 0122 in Taylorville, IL, for 47 years and most recently Post 91 in Metropolis and Scottish Rite Shriners. Gene leaves behind his wife Margie Dalrymple Parker of Metropolis; three children, Harvey Parker and wife Alma, Judy Parker and Mike Parker all of Metropolis; two grandchildren, Charla Beck and husband Tim and Levi Parker and wife Buffy both of Metropolis; seven great grandchildren, Travis Beck, Zack Ablett, Shelby Parker, Mahailee Jo Parker, Layla Parker, Zack Trumpower, and Lillian Trumpower all of Metropolis; two great-great grandchildren, Kereonna and Makenna Ablett; two sisters, Eva Parker Huss and Lillian Holley and husband Charles both of Metropolis; eight stepchildren, John Slater and wife Laurie, Ben Slater and wife Melody and Chuck Slater and wife Nicole, all of Bushnell, IL, Terry Slater and wife Cathy of Macomb, IL, Art Slater and wife Paula of Campobello, SC, Wendy Oller and husband Bobby of Arvada, CO, Billy Jackson and wife Sandy of Morgantown, KY, and Nicholas Jackson of Nevada; twenty step grandchildren, Megan Cheek and husband Ryan, John Andrew Slater, Jennifer Slater, Brittany Slater, Tiffany Slater, Caleb Slater and Natalie Slater, all of Bushnell, IL, Tyler Slater and Zachary Slater of Moline, IL, Justin Slater, Austin Slater, Jordan Slater, Sara Kimler, all of Macomb, IL, Ryan Kimler of East Peoria, IL, Grant Anderson and Devin Anderson of Galesburg, IL, Kimberly Costanzo of Arvada, CO, Andy Jackson, Jack Jackson and Clint Jackson of Morgantown, KY; three step great grandchildren, Catherine Costanzo of Arvada, CO, Sophia Grace Jackson and Eli Jackson both of Morgantown, KY.He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey B. Parker Sr. and Della Hallam Parker; former wife, Velda Parker; two grandsons, Bert Parker and Greg Trumpower; three brothers, Lee, Bob and G.H. "Bud" Parker; one sister, Mattie Tanner.
