Gladys Trail, age 90 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 7:55 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis with Dr. Joe Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Mrs. Trail, also lovingly known to many as "Dak", was a member of the First Baptist Church of Metropolis where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school. Gladys is survived by her children, Shirley M. Lanier of Paducah, KY, Margaret Powell of Metropolis, IL, and John W. Trail and companion Jody of Okeechobee, FL; six grandchildren, Kimberly M. Faulkner and husband Todd, Alan D. Reed Lanier and wife Catherine, Courtney M. Mayes and husband Kim, Whitney M. Redford and husband Kelly, Jessica M. Lanier, and Timothy E. Powell and wife Kandice; 10 great grandchildren, Kirsten M. Faulkner, Skylar Mayes, Alexander Mayes, Griffin Mayes, Elizabeth Lanier, William Lanier, Emma Lanier, William R. Redford, Blake E. Powell, Dane M. Powell; one half brother, Robert Darnell Followell and wife Annabelle; one half sister, Norma Jean Biggers and husband John; one half sister-in-law, Jerretta Followell. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert D. Followell; mother and stepfather, Rena and William R. Graves; husband Leroy Trail; one half brother, Richard D. Followell; and one son-in-law, Ralph Powell. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home.
