IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gary Don
Krueger
November 11, 1949 – April 26, 2025
Gary Don Krueger, age 75, of Metropolis, Illinois, passed away at 12:27 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, with his family by his side. Gary was born on November 11, 1949, in Paducah, Kentucky, the son of Calvin Henry Walter Krueger and Doris Caroline (Eickholz) Krueger.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Kingston Cemetery with Rev. David Deem officiating.
Gary was retired from Electric Energy, Inc., was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross, and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Gary loved the outdoors, whether it was camping and fishing with his wife, hunting deer, duck hunting with friends, or devoting countless hours to playing sports with his children. He developed a particular passion for trail running later in life, completing multiple trail half marathons, full marathons, and his first ultramarathon (60 km) at the age of 60. If the length of one's life were measured in hours spent running and dispensing wisdom and jokes to family and friends, he lived well beyond his 75 years.
Gary was known for his bluntness, sharp analytical mind, sense of humor, and love for his family. In turn, he was fiercely loved by his family, who will carry his strength, wisdom, and passion for life with them forever.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Rita (Robinson) Krueger; his daughter and son-in-law, Lori Krueger and Ned Black; his son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Amy Krueger; his treasured grandchildren, Jenna and Caroline Krueger; and his sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Chris James.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his niece, Kelsey Elizabeth Glass.
Memorials may be made in Gary's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Krueger, Jenna Krueger, Caroline Krueger, Ned Black, Chris James, Cory Midkiff, Al Stratemeyer, and Dan Stewart.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com.
