Frieda Aileen (McNichols) McCoy, age 92 of Metropolis, IL, passed from this life to her eternal home on July 25, 2015, at her daughter's home, surrounded by her loving family.Frieda A. McCoy was born December 4, 1922, in Ganntown of Johnson County, IL. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Alex and Fleecie Inez (Henderson) McNichols. She was the only daughter born of seven children.On November 21, 1942, she was united in marriage to Elie Thomas McCoy until his passing in 1986. To this union, two daughters, were born, Karen Elaine (McCoy) Leek and Judith Ann (McCoy) Lauderdale. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and was very devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the light and joy of her life.Frieda was a faithful member of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Metropolis and attended faithfully until her health prevented her from doing so. She served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Sunday School Department for 19 years. When Frieda was 50 years of age, she went to work for the first time, working part-time for the Massac County Clerks Office. While working there, a position came open in the Massac County Assessor's Office. She applied for the job and in 1973, she went to work full-time. In 1998, at the age of 75, she retired from the Assessor's Office after working 25 years.Frieda is survived by one daughter, Judith (McCoy) Lauderdale and her husband William of Metropolis; three grandchildren, Richard Wayne Leek and Charles Thomas Leek and wife Nancy all of Metropolis, and Michelle Annette (Lauderdale) Smith and husband Cory of Paducah, KY; six great grandchildren, Kaley Morgan Leek of McCracken County, KY, Kensey McCall (Leek) Lee and husband Todd of Marshall County, KY, Andrew Thomas Leek and Rachael Layne Leek both of Metropolis, and Zander Blane Smith and Zoe McKelle Smith both of Paducah, KY; two great-great grandchildren, Case Korte and Jayce Lee; two brothers, Robert McNichols and wife Joann of Metropolis and Wardell McNichols and wife Patricia of Vienna, IL; two sisters-in-law, Thelma NcNichols of Metropolis and Norma Jean McNichols of Champaign, IL; several very special nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elie; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Elaine (McCoy) Leek and Jerry Ray Leek; four brothers, Leston, Lavern, Raymond, and Kenneth McNichols; one very special cousin, Micky (Groves) Miller Malcom.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015, at the Lighthouse Assembly of God 670 Airport Road Metropolis, IL, with Rev. Larry Lunsford officiating.
