Florence Gower, age 86 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 5:29 pm on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Massac Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at St. John Lutheran Church with Zach Browning officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Florence was retired from Massac Memorial Hospital and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Florence is survived by her daughter, Cindy Stitt and husband Dan; sons, Phil Hunerkoch and wife Sherry, Marshall Hunerkoch and wife Lyn, and Douglas Hunerkoch and wife Denise; grandchildren, Olivia Schnibbe (Nils), Emma Lieberman (Ethan), Ashley Browning (Zach), Adam Hunerkoch (Halie), Jeremy Hunerkoch (Katrina), Justin Hunerkoch (Jusenda), Jacob Hunerkoch, Christina Moore (Chris), and Nicholas Hunerkoch (Mariah); great grandchildren, Liam Schnibbe, Oliver Schnibbe, Mia Schnibbe, Finn Schnibbe, Jack Lieberman, Max Browning, Cooper Browning, Palmer Hunerkoch, Tate Hunerkoch, Kaden Hunerkoch, Skye Hunerkoch, Kamden Rodriguez, Kydan Hunerkoch, Kaysen Hunerkoch, Keegan Hunerkoch, Chase Moore, Cooper Moore, Avery Dufault, Rilee Hunerkoch, and Maxine Hunerkoch; sister, Carolyn Conley; several nieces and nephews.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Viola (Stratemeyer) Bremer; 1st husband, Wayne Hunerkoch; 2nd husband, Wayne Gower; brother, Wayne Bremer.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 from 11 am until 1 pm at St. John Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be made in Florence’s name to Massac Memorial Hospital Foundation, 28 Chick Street, Metropolis, Illinois 62960.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Hunerkoch, Kaden Hunerkoch, Jacob Hunerkoch, Adam Hunerkoch, Nicholas Hunerkoch, and Chris Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ashley Browning, Christina Moore, Olivia Schnibbe, and Emma Lieberman.
