Eugene F. Stratemeyer, 80, of Metropolis IL died Monday, July 11, 2016. He was born May 14, 1936 in Metropolis to Herschel and Myrtle Stratemeyer. Eugene grew up in rural Massac County and graduated from Metropolis High School in 1954. Shortly thereafter, Eugene married the love of his life, Charlene Rehlmeyer, to whom he was married for 42 years until her death in 1998. Eugene farmed and ran Stratemeyer Farm Service for over 55 years. He loved working the soil and dedicated his life to agricultural advancement. Other interests included broadcasting and conservation. He was a member of the Metropolis Rotary Club and St. John's Church. Eugene was preceded in death by his wife Charlene Stratemeyer and his parents, Herschel and Myrtle Stratemeyer. Survivors include his brother Frederick Stratemeyer of Metropolis IL; three sons, Samuel K. Stratemeyer of Metropolis IL, Benjamin L. Stratemeyer and wife Celeste of Centralia IL, and Daniel S. Stratemeyer and wife Whitni of Paducah KY. Grandchildren include Audrey Lynn Stratemeyer and Natalie Kate Stratemeyer of Centralia IL, and Henry Kipp Stratemeyer and Harrison Edward Stratemeyer of Paducah KY. Nieces include Nancy Stratemeyer Harris of Mount Vernon IN; Julie Stratemeyer Hayes of Troy IL; and Andra Kerley and Kathy Powell, both of Metropolis. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 pm Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at St. John's Church, 6201 Waldo Church Road, Metropolis. Additional visitation will be from 9 until noon Thursday, July 14, 2016 at St. John's Church. The funeral service will begin at noon, with Rev. Jeff Bremer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Miller Funeral Home of Metropolis.
