Mrs. Ernestine Hastings, age 94, of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017 at Massac Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. Shalom Renner officiating. There will be no viewing. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Mrs. Hastings was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Metropolis and the VFW. She attended Southeastern Illinois College where she completed nursing school and was employed by Massac Memorial Hospital for several years. Ernestine is survived by one son, Stephen Woods and wife Karen; two grandchildren, Dr. Dustin Woods and Natalie Brenningmeyer and husband Jake all of Paducah, KY; one great grandson, Jack Brenningmeyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Stephen and Dora Frances (Abbott) Ward; one son, Doug Woods; one half-sister, Carmen Ward; first husband, Vernon Woods; second husband, Bill Hastings. Arrangements have been entrusted to Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis. Memorials may be given in Ernestine's name to the First United Methodist Church 100 E. 5th Street, Metropolis, IL 62960.
