Ernest F. Foss, age 89 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 11:48 pm on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on February 17, 1933 in Massac County the son of Julius and Bertha (Schmidt) Foss.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11 am on Monday, February 21, 2022 at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. Keith Tilford officiating.

Ernest was retired from the Massac County Highway Department and was a life long farmer. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Metropolis, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served his country in the Army during the Korean War.

Ernest is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Ann (Mittendorf) Foss; sons, Steve Foss and wife Paula and Dwight Foss; granddaughters, Stephanie Woodward and husband Barry and Heather Foss; great grandchildren, Emrey, Henry, and Mack; sister, Bernice Reynolds; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dale Mittendorf and wife Frances and Patsy Foss; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harry Foss and Harold Foss; brother-in-law, Bobby Reynolds.

Memorials may be made in Ernest's name to the First Christian Church, 420 Catherine Street, Metropolis, Illinois 62960.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Foss, Mike Reynolds, Rob Korte, Barry Woodward, David Wilke, and Ryan Frazine.
