Shirley Eloise English Davis, 82, of Metropolis, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 3:48 a.m. at Baptist Health Paducah.Born Nov. 7, 1932 in Massac County, Mrs. Davis was a member of Metropolis First Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and assisted with the church's Vacation Bible School and funeral dinners for many years. She was previously employed as a service representative in Metropolis for General Telephone Co. of Illinois and retired from Laidlaw Corp. of Metropolis.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Metropolis First Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Buchanan officiating and music provided by Susan Ramage, pianist. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Survivors include one son, Keith Davis and wife Lisa of Metropolis; two granddaughters, Taylor Davis and Grace Davis, both of Metropolis; one sister, Alice June Parkins of Metropolis; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Davis; her parents, Ewing Lavelle English and Shirley Alice Martin English Barker; her stepfather, James Herbert Barker; and one brother, Gene Lavelle English.Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m. at the Metropolis First Baptist Church on Saturday, April 11.
