Obituary

Earl “Sug” East, age 78 of Karnak, Illinois passed away at 12:28 pm on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at Baptist Health Paducah.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Rev. Gerell Cain officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Cemetery.

Earl was retired from Vienna Correctional Center, was of the Methodist faith, and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He loved gardening, working in his yard, tending to his flowers, and traveling the backroads of America. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, who loved spending time with his hunting and fishing buddies.

Earl is survived by his children, Tracy Joyner and wife Sandy, Judy Runkle, Mary Burgess and husband Gary, and Dwayne Joyner and wife Ashlee; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; faithful canine companion, Cody; siblings, Mary Ludlow, Russell East and wife Marlene, James East, and Shirlee East; several nieces and nephews.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Aliene (Byerly) East; wife of 50 years, Constance (Astin) East; sisters, Karen Holshouser and Sharon Richards.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026 from 12 noon to 2 pm at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made in Earl’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
