IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald
Rottmann
June 7, 1936 – April 5, 2025
Donald Rottmann age 88 of Metropolis, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, KY. A celebration of God's grace in Don's life will be held Saturday, April 12th, 2025 at Faith Lutheran Church in Metropolis, IL, with visitation from 11am -1pm and the funeral beginning at 1pm. Burial will follow at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with military rites.
Don was a lifelong resident of Metropolis and served in the US Army right out of high school. After his service, he returned to Metropolis and started at National State Bank working from teller all the way to executive before he retired. After returning from the military, he married his wife Kay Korte Rottmann, who he loved dearly, until her passing in March of 2020. If you knew his van, you'd see him visiting her gravesite daily at Memorial Gardens.
Don volunteered on many boards in our community, but the one that meant the most was being a part of the founding board of directors for the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. He served there alongside his father Allen, and for many years as the president of the board. It meant so much, that last year when he needed additional medical care, Good Samaritan was his choice. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing on Barkley Lake for those delicious crappie and wintering at Okeechobee with his wife Kay. Deer season was also a big event in the family. Don hunted each deer season; from the first-year hunting in the 50's, until he could no longer. He harvested his last deer at the age of 80 and passed this love onto his children and grandchildren. Don was also a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church, where he attended until his health no longer allowed. He also attended other bible studies and services at other churches in our area. Don shared the commitment of the motto of the Good Samaritan Society in his life, "In Christ's love, everyone is someone."
He is survived by his Daughter Lisa Bremer & husband Jeff; his sons, Mark Rottmann and wife Debbie and Darian Rottmann and wife Heather; eight grandchildren, Caroline Currie (Blaze), Laura Mitchell (Alex), John Bremer (Michaela), Logan Rottmann, Blake Rottmann, Elizabeth Jackson (James), Natalie Rottmann, and Gabe Rottmann. He is also survived by one brother, Elgie Rottmann and wife Ann, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Magda Rottmann; his wife, Kay Rottmann; sister, Alfreda Horman and husband Paul; and brother, Richard Rottmann and wife Shirley.
