Donald L LaFond, 73 of Metropolis, IL, formerly of Albuquerque, NM went to be with god on May 10, 2013 at home with his loving family and caregivers at his side.He was in the US Navy, retired from United Airlines. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara LaFond, sisters Shirley (Owens) and Richard Kotter of Brookport, IL, and Delores (Owens) Taylor of Metropolis, IL, and brothers Wesley and Flora Owens, Stanley and Debbie Owens both of Brookport, IL, and 5 nieces and 11 nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Jennie (Cordes) Owens and father Clifford LaFond, brother in law Donald Taylor and nephew Timothy Taylor. Don like to golf, play guitar and spending time with his family. He loved teaching young people to play guitar. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Aikins-Farmer Brookport Funeral Home. Bro. David Kotter will officiate. Burial will follow in the Maplelawn Park Cemetery with military rites.Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, May 14, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at the Aikins-Farmer Brookport Funeral Home.Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
