Mr. Don Stuart Sullivan, age 82, of Metropolis, IL passed away at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at his residence with his loving family and friends by his side.Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Metropolis First United Methodist Church. Rev. Jeff Bealmear will officiate. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.Don was born on January 8, 1932 in Metropolis, IL to his parents George F. and Mildred Arnett Sullivan.Don worked for Babee Tenda Corporation, Bonifield Brothers Trucking, D & W, and CTS before retiring from Allied-Signal after more than 30 years. Don was a lifelong member of the Metropolis First United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, was on the Administrative Board, and a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class.Don served on the Metropolis City Schools Board of Education, the Massac County Mental Health Board, and the 708 Board. He also was elected to the Metropolis City Council as Alderman of Ward Four and served as the Treasurer for the City of Metropolis.Don is survived by his daughter, Kelley Ann Sullivan of Metropolis, IL; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lyndell and Linda Ramsey of Metropolis, IL; one niece, Susan Ducharme and husband Art of Metropolis, IL; four nephews, Michael Ramsey of Lexington, KY, Shawn Ramsey and wife Valerie of Frankfort, KY, Pat Sullivan and wife Kim of Metropolis, IL, and George Sullivan of Metropolis, IL; as well as many other family and friends.Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife of over 55 years, Phyllis Wells Sullivan; brother, Martin "Bud" Sullivan, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andrew Stewart and Estelle Heflin Wells.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at the Metropolis First United Methodist Church.In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given in Don's memory to the Metropolis First United Methodist Church, 100 East 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois 62960 or the Your Fight Cancer Fund at Baptist Health Paducah, 2501 Kentucky Avenue, Paducah, Kentucky 42003.Pallbearers will be Shawn Ramsey, Michael Ramsey, Pat Sullivan, Jon Howell, Don Sawyer, and Richard Berry.Honorary Pallbearers will be the Fidelis Sunday School Class.Music will be provided by Stecia Gregory, Organist.
