Mr. Dennis Peitzmeier, age 79, of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, IL.He was born June 11, 1934 in Gregory Landing, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, August A. and Victoria Louise Peitzmeier. He married Marjorie Hare on February 2, 1957 in Macomb, IL. He lived in St. Patrick, MO during his early childhood then moved to Macomb, IL in 1944. He graduated from Macomb Senior High School in 1953. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He worked at GTE as supervisor of the central office equipment area in 1981 at Metropolis until retiring in 1990. After retiring from GTE he worked at Long Distance Management.Survivors include his wife of 56 years; 5 daughters, Maria Montalvo of Macomb, IL; Susan Romano of Macomb, IL, Karen Peitzmeier of Macomb, IL, Julia Manning of Manassas, VA, and Angela Lamb of Metropolis, IL; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Smith of Macomb, IL; and 2 sisters-in-law, Anne Peitzmeier of Plainfield, IL and JoAnne Peitzmeier of Evansville, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by 1 step-grandchild; 5 brother, Lawrence, Paul, Andrew, August, and Alvin.He was active in helping organize a Junior Achievement program for students as well as helping with the Science Club at Macomb High School while living in Macomb. He was an active member in the Metropolis Kiwanis until shortly before his death.Pallbearers are sons-in-law, Greg Montalvo, Michael Romano, both of Macomb, IL, and John Lamb of Metropolis, grandsons, Zachary Bartz of Macomb, IL, Tyler Romano of Oklahoma City, OK and Luke Manning of Charlottesville, VA. Father Michael Christopher Mujule will officiate. A graveside burial service will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb, IL with Monsignor Richard Pricco officiating.
