David G. Watson, age 68 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 4:19 am on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the Zion United Church of Christ. Pastor Keith Tilford will officiate. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. David was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, Fort Massac Saddle Club, and Shawnee Trail Conservancy. He had worked out of Local 318 Operating Engineers and Local 9939 at the Will Scarlet/Peabody Coal Mine. He retired from Electric Energy Inc. working out of Local 148. David loved to ride horses, camp with his trail riding friends, hunt, farm, work on equipment, go to farm sales, but most of all he loved to be with his grandsons and family. David is survived by his wife, Judith Watson; daughter, Sheila Korte and husband Darryl; grandsons, Jakob and Austin Korte all of Metropolis, IL; 3 sisters, Martha Ann McMunn of Villa Ridge, IL, Daisy Bowling and husband Tommy of Oklahoma City, OK, Erma Watson of Westminster, CA; 3 brothers, Lewis Watson and wife Mary of Olmsted, IL, Jim Watson and wife Janice of South Roxana, IL, Glenn Watson of Villa Ridge, IL; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Reba (Turner) Watson; step mother, Salona Watson; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Albert Korte; son, Terry Ray Watson; sister, Janette Mayer; 2 brothers-in-law, Delbert Mayer and Dick McMunn; 1 niece and her husband, Brenda and Bob Daniels. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Zion United Church of Christ. Memorials may be made to Massac County Youth Fair, c/o Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 760, Metropolis, Illinois 62960. Music will be provided by Karen Wemhoener. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Korte, Jason Korte, Wesley Korte, David L. Watson, Glenn McMunn, Kenny Watson, Michael Mayer, and John Story. Honorary Pallbearers will be Todd Watson, Josh McDowell, Rick McCall, Stephan Roberts, Robert Dale McMunn, Bruce Watson, Tim Cloyd, and Bradley Watson.
