Charlotte B. Walker passed away peacefully on the morning September 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of family and cherished memories.

Charlotte was born in Homberg, Illinois, to Otis Lee Baker and Murrel Addine Baker. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt who found great joy in the simple things in life—her family, her garden, and a good book.

Charlotte was a dedicated employee at Harrah’s, where she worked as a security dispatcher for 32 years. She took pride in her work and cared deeply for the friendships she developed over those years.

Outside of work, Charlotte enjoyed gardening and could often be found tending to her plants and flowers or sitting on the front porch enjoying them. She was a frequent visitor of Metropolis Public library and loved the quiet pleasure of a good book. She also had a particular fondness for mocha frappes, a small indulgence that brought her great enjoyment. Charlotte’s family and grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and the memories she created with them will be remembered for generations to come.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Otis Lee Baker and Murrel Addine Baker; her sister, Virginia Baker; and her nephew, Kevin Baker.

Charlotte is survived by her brother, Vincent Baker and his wife, Helen; her niece, Gwyn Mickelson and her husband, Steve, and their daughters, Taylor (Jake) and Kelsey (Nick) Mickelson.

She is also survived by her son, Mark Walker and his life partner, Tami; her granddaughter, Audrey Sawyer and her husband, Patrick; her great grandson, Grayson; and her granddaughter, Autumn Vicat and her husband, John.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Deirdre Legereit and her husband, Derrick, and Deirdre's children and grandchildren: Brittney Bradshaw and her husband, Tristan, and their sons, Jeremiah and Gavin; Jared Street and his wife, Stacie, and their daughters, Lily, Eden, and Charlotte; Dylan Street and his wife, Sierra, and their children, Skylan, Sophia, and Silas; and Jordan Street (Megan).

Charlotte's family was the greatest source of joy in her life. She treasured every visit, every conversation, every laugh, and every moment spent watching her family grow.

Though she is no longer with us, Charlotte's memory will live on through the family she loved and the lives she touched throughout her years.

A special recognition to Paula Winding, Donna Barlow, and countless others at Mercy Health Hospice by Compassus in Metropolis, Illinois for administering the greatest of care, compassion, and honor toward our loved one. And Beth, our trusted caregiver. For all you’ve done, thank you seems inadequate. You all became family.
