Mr. Charles O. Wells, age 79 of Metropolis, IL passed away at 1:00 am on Friday, August 23, 2013 at his residence.A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Lutheran Church of the Cross. Rev. David Deem will officiate. Military rites will follow the service.Charles was a retired pilot, crop duster, plumber/pipe fitter, was the former owner/operator of Charles O. Wells Plumbing, Heating, & Cooling, and retired from Player's Casino as Facilities Manager. He was a member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Local #160 in Murphysboro, IL, Moose Lodge #282 where he served as Past Governor for several terms, American Legion Post #306 where he held several offices, most recently serving as the Chaplain, VFW Post #3847, and the Metropolis Masonic Lodge #91. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War.Charles is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rebecca (Ridge) Wells of Metropolis; three children, son, Jon Darren Wells and wife Tammy of Metropolis, daughter, Shannon Dru Rehlmeyer and husband Brad of Metropolis, son, Charles Devin Wells of Port Ludlow, WA; 5 grandchildren, Jon Mason Wells and Toby Ridge Wells, Stefan Dru Rehlmeyer and Bryn Aubin Rehlmeyer all of Metropolis, and Liam David Wells of Port Ludlow, WA; several nieces and nephews.Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Tobie and Averil (Lawrence) Wells; sisters, Marjorie Jackson and Geneva Guice; brothers, Harold Wells, Walter Wells, Oliver Wells, Phillip Wells, Claude Wells, and Donald Wells.
