Charles F. Kommer, age 91 of Metropolis, IL formerly of Kevil, KY passed away at 11:50 pm on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, March 7, 2016 at Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis. Rev. Everett Shaw will officiate. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens with military rites.Charles was a retired custodian, having worked at Central School and City National Bank. He was a member of the First Church of God in Metropolis, American Legion Post 306, and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II.Charles is survived by a daughter-in-law, Margaret Kommer of West Paducah, KY; a son, Bradley Kommer and wife Cheryl of Hamel, IL; 5 grandchildren, Jacob Kommer and wife Leanne of LaGrange, KY, Daniel Kommer of La Center, KY, Chad Kommer and wife Jessie of Metropolis, IL, Jill Lewis and husband Eric of the Hillerman Community, and Jennifer Burnett of Paducah, KY; 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty Faughn and husband Wayne of Metropolis, IL and Phyllis Mattila of Snohomish, WA; several nieces and nephews.Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Louis G. and Hazel (Kennedy) Kommer; wife, Allene (Medley) Kommer; son, Leroy Kommer; 2 sisters, Lois Parker and Ella Pauline Kommer; 3 brothers, Clarence, Delbert, and Donald Kommer.Visitation will be held on Monday, March 7, 2016 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis.Online condolences may be left at www.aikinsfarmer-millerfh.com
