Mr. Charles Leary Douglas, 80, of Brookport, IL, passed away Sunday morning, April 30, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. Leary was born April 2, 1937 to John Paul and Katie Faughn Douglas in Massac County. He spent the first eleven years of his childhood living in a home on Kincaid Mounds in Massac County. Leary married Nancy Tolen on December 26, 1959 at Waldo Baptist Church. Leary was a farmer in Massac County until the mid-1990s. He was later employed by Lindell May trucking. Leary was a member of Waldo Baptist Church where he previously served for several years as the Song Leader and Sunday school teacher. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at the Brookport Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Tolen Douglas of Brookport; four sons, Ronnie Douglas and wife Elizabeth of Metropolis, Tod Douglas and wife Connie, Jimmy Douglas and wife Johnna, Jake Douglas and wife Amanda all of Brookport; six grandchildren, Rebecca Douglas Montgomery and husband Canaan, Matthew Douglas and wife Rachel both of Metropolis, Jessie Douglas, Dylan Douglas, Avery Grace Douglas, and Jenna Douglas all of Brookport; one great grandchild, Lydia Kate Douglas of Metropolis; one sister, Janice Douglas Giltner of Brookport; one brother, Lyle Vance Douglas and wife Marge of Louisville, KY; as well as several cousin, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, David N. Douglas; and a brother-in-law, Don Giltner. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Brookport Funeral Home and from 10 am until the funeral hour on Wednesday, May 3rd.
