Charles Edward Cummins, age 87 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 3:03 am on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Christian Care Center in Kuttawa, Kentucky.Graveside services will be held at 3 pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jon Cockrel will officiate.Charles was a retired pilot for Panhandle Eastern, the former owner of Custom Classics, a Blimp Pilot, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Metropolis, a charter member of the International Swift Association, the National Rifle Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association, and the Civil Air Patrol. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II.Charles is survived by a daughter, Glenda Norwood and husband Ken of Benton, KY; a son, Charles Keith Cummins of Metropolis, IL; 2 grandchildren, Adam Norwood and wife Angie of Benton, KY and Jody Norwood and wife Morgan of Briensburg, KY; 3 great grandchildren, Savannah Norwood of Benton, KY, Ethan and Marley Norwood both of Briensburg, KY; great great grandson, Dawson Servicky of Benton, KY.Charles was preceded in death by his parents, S.E. and Clarice (Fitch) Cummins; his wife, Alice (Giltner) Cummins; 2 sisters, Melba Scowden and Evelyn Fain.There will not be any visitation.
