Mrs. Catherine Laura (Wilhide) Rice, age 86 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 4:59 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Massac Memorial Hospital.Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Rev. Dr. Lynn Shurley will officiate.Catherine was a member of the First Baptist Church in Metropolis. She graduated with a bachelor of science in clothing and textiles from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, NC. Prior to her marriage, she worked as an assistant buyer for Rich's Department Store in Atlanta, GA; and later taught home economics for two years at the Metropolis Community High School.Catherine is survived by her 2 daughters, Susan Wetherington and husband Milton Sturgis Wetherington of Parker, CO and Catherine Trampe and husband Richard Trampe of Paducah, KY; her 3 grandchildren, Laura Wetherington Weatherson and husband Lane of Colorado Springs, CO, Philip Trampe of Chicago, IL, and Maria Trampe Mihalko and husband Robert Mihalko of Phoenix, AZ; her 2 great grandchildren, Liam Weatherson and Lydia Weatherson both of Colorado Springs, CO.Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Frank S. and Maude (Rowland) Wilhide; her husband, George A. Rice Jr.; her 3 brothers, Frank Wilhide Jr., Robert Wilhide, and Wallace Wilhide.There will not be any visitation.
